The number of companies on Fortune’s coveted “Best Companies to Work For” list that offer fully-paid sabbaticals keeps inching up. This year, 21 companies on the list offer sabbaticals, up from 19 in 2010 and 15 in 2009. Are you seeing a trend?
In less than two weeks, the yourSABBATICAL team will be in Denver for the Great Place to Work Institute’s annual conference. Companies that attend the conference are usually trying to get on (or stay on) the Fortune list and want to learn about best practices in “great places to work.” Whether a company has a sabbatical program is a factor in the application process for the annual “best employer” list.
Here are the 2011 winners with fully-paid sabbaticals, with their Fortune rank in parentheses:
- Boston Consulting Group (2)
- Recreational Equipment (9)
- DreamWorks Animation SKG (10)
- Alston & Bird (13)

Cool.
I’d be super interested in what a fully paid Sabbatical means.
3 weeks paid with all benefits/bonuses? or 1 year? Somewhere in between?
Hi, Sean. Fully paid means salary and benefits remain for the period of the sabbatical. For lengths of sabbaticals, see our “Workplaces for Sabbaticals” list at http://yoursabbatical.com/learn/workplaces-for-sabbaticals/.
