We all go through periods of chaos, crazy busyness, and being stuck in our lives. And we all need a way to come back to equilibrium, health, and sanity. Luckily we all have reset buttons and they come in small, medium, and large. You can read about examples of these three sizes in my recent blog post.

I had reached a point two years ago after designing and building a house, de-cluttering and moving, and maintaining my coaching and leadership development business at full speed, when none of those buttons worked any more. I wasn’t just stressed or temporarily depleted, I was totally mentally and physically exhausted, unable to focus, and unable to enjoy myself even when I wasn’t working. A long weekend at the beach with my husband sounded nice, but I knew in my gut that I need something to break major “whirling dervish” patterns that had formed. I knew that if I didn’t do this I would have some sort of breakdown–I simply couldn’t go on. I needed a “Super-size Me” reset button.
I decided to take a sabbatical to do three things: rest my body and my brain, completely change my environment and daily rhythm, and renew myself at the soul level. The moment I made the decision I felt that a huge weight had been lifted. I could immediately see a light at the end of the tunnel. I could breathe again. Even though my sabbatical was months away, I knew that this was the reset button that would really work for me. I was able to feel a sense of proactively creating my life the way I wanted it to be.
More to come on how I planned and executed my “Super-size Me” reset button…
